- Paul Bates, Senior Developer
|
Paul is a systems developer and consultant with years of experience in the computer industry. A Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, he is an acknowledged specialist in database applications built on the Windows platform.
Since the mid-60s, Paul has worked extensively in both the private and public sectors on a variety of projects including billing and inventory control, mine planning, telephone call routing, and document imaging, capture, and workflow.
In the late 1970s, Paul played a key role in implementing the computer and communications systems for Best Available Seating Service (BASS), the first large-scale computerized entertainment ticketing system in Canada. Working closely with the principals (David Wolinsky, Bill Ballard, and Michael Cohl) of parent company Concert Productions International (CPI), he oversaw the installation of the BASS system in several facilities including The O'Keefe Centre, Tennis Canada, the Royal Alexandra Theatre, Bayview Playhouse, and Maple Leaf Gardens as well as setting up the BASS Phone Room and outlets in The Bay and Dominion Stores.
During the 80s and based on his experience in the ticketing business, Bates developed an advanced database marketing system named ZENUS that was used at Cullen Country Barns, Wild Water Kingdom, Royal Ontario Museum, Ontario Arts Council, Maple Leaf Gardens, Casa Loma, Hockley Valley Resort, and other organizations, with customized versions of ZENUS for group sales processing at O'Keefe Centre and SkyDome. Bates (as RYO Theatre Services) used ZENUS to support group sales ticketing campaigns for Ice Capades, Toronto Symphony, Royal Alexandra Theatre, Player's International Tennis Tournament, Aida at SkyDome, and other entertainment attractions including various dinner theatres.
In the intervening years, through Bates Computer Solutions, Paul has turned his attention to providing information technology services to small- and mid-sized businesses. During this time, he also worked on enterprise-level document imaging and workflow projects for Citibank, Laurentian Bank, Strategic Value, and Ministry of Labour.
Since 2006, Bates has been developing for the Web using Microsoft tools, the ASP.NET framework, and SQL Server to activate public websites and build web-based applications.
